| Pincode: The oldest, yet the most relevant way to locate and identify an address...
Enquiring for an address... and people may direct you to a particular landmark, or a particular road, a crossing, a retail shop, a governmental office, a recreational place, a taxi stand... and the list goes on and on, in densely populated regions of India. But in this era of computers, where people want to locate every location on the digital maps. Its harsh on search engines, to identify the correct location on the map, on entering a query, especially with locale spellings and language. In such a scenario, to narrow down our search, a code which links to a location, seems an optimum solution.
The postal code or post code or pin code (Postal Index Number) or zip code (Zone Improvement Plan), etc., we might know them from different names, but somewhere, we all are tagged to them.
Postal codes are usually assigned to geographical areas. Sometimes codes are assigned to individual addresses or to institutions that receive large volumes of mail, e.g. government agencies or large commercial companies. Different countries adopt different methodologies for forming these codes. Some put it in simple numerical codes while others use alphanumeric code.

In terms of precision, the example of Netherlands can be taken whose postal code (consisting of four digits followed by a space and two letters (NNNN AA)), could direct a postal delivery to the address.
First introduced in December 1932 in USSR, followed by Germany ('41), Argentina ('58), UK ('59), USA ('63), SWISS ('64) ... India postal address system i.e. PIN (Postal Index Number) was introduced in 15th August, 1972.
